HIKE & RIDE
See and experience the behind the scenes happenings at the Georgetown Loop Mining and Railroad Park.
The Hike and Ride Excursion departs from the Silver Plume Depot at exit 226 on the I-70 Interstate. This excursion is recommended only for those that can hike downhill at an elevation of 9000 feet for a distance of 2 miles over a period of approximately 4 ½ hours. At the end of the hike you will board the train for transportation back to your vehicle. Good closed toe hiking or sturdy tennis shoes are recommended. There is a restroom break about midway through the hike. The hike is not suggested for children under the age of 10. No animals are allowed.
Come see history from the inside. Hike the trails and wagon roads that the miners did in the 1800s. Your guide will start you with a brief overview of the engine house where the maintenance on the trains is done. You’ll go to the old Silver Plume Cemetery on a ridge above the valley that the train ascends through. You’ll see sections of the torrent that is Clear Creek that cannot be viewed from the train, hike to the old baseball field where the miners and other locals played America’s pastime into the 1920s. You will have opportunities to photograph the train up close as it goes by. Other stops include the Hall tunnel tipple and the Hall dump where millions of dollars of silver were taken out up until the 1930s. You will visit the Lebanon and Everett Silver Mines, tour one of the mines, pan for gold, and have a great all-beef hotdog lunch. At the end of your day you will ride the train back to Silver Plume to retrieve your car for your drive home. All for only $49.95.
