Experience the Old West as it was when Georgetown was known as “The Silver Queen of the Rockies” with Mine Tours and Gold Panning! Enhance your train ride with an optional walking tour of the Lebanon Silver Mine, located at the halfway point in the railroad.

 

Daytime mine tours are only available April through mid-September. Children under 5 years old are not allowed to enter the mine per state safety regulations. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Mine tours are not available on the last train departure of the day. Please wear closed-toed shoes or sneakers, and bring a jacket for the year-round, 44℉ inside the mine!

The Lebanon Mine Tour With Gold Panning

This tour takes you 500 feet into the once-operational Lebanon silver mine tunnel, bored in the 1870s. Your informative mine tour guide will point out rich veins of silver and tell you about the history of early-day mining in Georgetown. Then, learn how to pan for gold like a real prospector – You even get to take home the gold you find!

The Extended Lebanon Mine Tour

This tour takes you over 1,000 feet into Leavenworth Mountain, exploring a once operational silver mine tunnel! The Lebanon access tunnel follows a section of the Hise Ore that extends from the silver mines of Silver Plume to the Silver Queen mine in Georgetown. Led by our knowledgeable mine tour guides, you will see naturally occurring "silver pearls", calcified hobnail boot prints, calcite dams, and stalactites that are over 100 years old.

Please Note

Daytime mine tours are only available April through mid-September. The mine tour adds another 1 hour and 15 minutes to your trip, for a total of a 2-hour and 30-minute excursion with the train ride. Due to the walking terrain to the mine site (pictured below), the mine tour is not recommended for young children who cannot walk the entire distance on their own, anyone who is mobility impaired in any way, or those who might have a problem at 9,000 feet in elevation. Strollers and wheelchairs are not permitted. Mine tours are not available on the last train departure of the day. All guests must wear the provided hard hats.

The tours involve about 3/4 of a mile of walking into dark, enclosed spaces. Children under 5 years of age are not permitted underground in either the Everett or the Lebanon Mines. Children under 5 years old may visit the site of the mines but must stay above ground and under the care of a parent or guardian. Weather conditions can change rapidly, so please come prepared for an outdoor adventure!
