Planning Your Visit
There’s nothing quite like experiencing the Rockies by rail aboard the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Whether it’s your first visit or a returning tradition, a little preparation ensures your day is smooth, comfortable, and unforgettable.
Here’s everything you need to know before you arrive.
Get Your Tickets
Round-trip train excursions are available from both Georgetown and Silver Plume depots, giving you flexibility when planning your visit.
Tickets may be purchased:
- Online at GeorgetownLoopRR.com
- By phone at 888.456.6777
We strongly recommend booking in advance. Some rides and special events sell out — especially on weekends and holidays — and popular departure times fill quickly during peak season.
When to Arrive
Parking is available at the depot, but we encourage guests to plan ahead.
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure. This allows time for:
- Parking
- Ticket check-in
- Taking photos
- Boarding comfortably
Trains depart promptly. Late arrivals may miss the train and cannot be guaranteed rebooking, so giving yourself that extra time makes all the difference.
Dress for the Mountains
Mountain weather can change quickly in Clear Creek Canyon — even on sunny days. Layers are always your best friend in Colorado.
General Tips:
- Dress in layers
- Wear comfortable walking shoes
- Be prepared for changing temperatures
Seasonal Suggestions:
Summer:
Light layers, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
Fall:
Warm jacket and closed-toe shoes
Winter:
Insulated coat, gloves, hat, and warm footwear
Railcars may be open-air depending on the season, so dress accordingly for wind and temperature shifts.
The Journey
Once aboard, settle in and enjoy the ride.
- Bring your camera or phone — the scenic views are stunning from start to finish.
- Stay hydrated, especially at elevation.
- Keep an eye out as the train climbs high above Clear Creek and crosses the iconic Devil’s Gate High Bridge.
The journey is as much about the views as it is about the history — and there’s plenty of both.
Make It a Day in Georgetown
Your train ride pairs perfectly with exploring historic Georgetown. Before or after your excursion, consider:
- Strolling the charming main street
- Shopping local boutiques
- Enjoying lunch or coffee in town
- Exploring nearby hiking trails
- Visiting local museums and historic sites
The Georgetown Loop Railroad is more than a train ride — it’s a full mountain experience.
We look forward to welcoming you aboard and helping you create lasting memories in the heart of Colorado’s Rockies. Plan ahead, dress comfortably, arrive early — and get ready for an unforgettable journey through history.
